Mindfulness and Meditation

"One realizes through meditation that one is a necessary, intimate and important part of the Universe."

           - Swami Satyananda Saraswati

Mindfulness according to Buddhist tradition is the practice of being aware of something on purpose. Meditation according to Vedanta philosophy is sustained concentration, to hold the awareness on something without wavering. As such, these two are not separate practices but different stages of the same action. Once we learn to move our awareness at will, we progress to holding it there for a sustained period of time.

According to Vedanta, our thoughts define who we are. Each thought we have, has an impact on us personally as well as on the environment we are in. A positive outlook on life combined with an ability to focus creates a healthy, happy and peaceful life for us and those who come in contact with us.

Vedanta philosophy shows us the unity of all creation through the practice of meditation and mindfulness. Once we understand this and practice it regularly, our efficiency and mental power increases too and we are able to enjoy our lives to the fullest.
